Play-off hopes hang by a thread

- By JEFF BOWRON

ALUN Armstrong has urged his side not to let the season fall away after recent disappointing results.

Blyth’s hopes of making the top seven have nosedived after taking just one point from nine against play-off hopefuls.

Spartans face another tonight promotion-chasing side when they travel to Altrincham.

It is a game they need to win after dropping to 13th in the table - eight points shy of a play-off places.

Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat against high-flying Brackley Town was another setback for Blyth, who led early on.

Armstrong said: “We started the game really well, got a goal and then took our foot of the gas.

“We caved in to concede three quickfire goals and were then powder-puff.

“We will need to be a lot better tonight against an Altrincham side which is going well and had a big win on Saturday.”

First-choice goalkeeper Peter Jameson returns after a onegame ban for Blyth to replace Gateshead loanee Mark Foden, who struggled against Brackley.

Armstrong added: “I felt for Foden as it was a difficult game for him having joined us on short notice from Gateshead.

“It is important we don’t now let the season fizzle out.

“The playoffs are a tall order now but we have to keep going.”
