TRAVELLING BLIND

BBC2, 8pm

IN our selfie-stick-obsessed Instagram generation, this unique travel show is a thought-provoking insight into how we experience the world.

Blind traveller Amar Latif has visited over a hundred countries, taken up skydiving, bungee jumping and skiing, and always throws himself fearlessly into any experience. The only thing he relies on is a sighted guide to describe things to him.

In this surprising film, comedian Sara Pascoe is his companion as they explore Turkey, but she’s not adventurous at all.

While Amar wants to meet everyone, join in, touch things, smell things, Sara wants to hide in the hotel.

There are fun moments as Sara tries to describe everything from oil wrestling to a Grand Bazaar full of market stalls, but also poignant ones as Amar opens up about how he went blind by the age of 18.

And by the end, amid the rock formations of Cappadocia, both have learnt a huge amount from each other.

AL MURRAY’S GREAT BRITISH PUB QUIZ

QUEST, 10pm

NOT a familiar channel to many, but if you’re a fan of the Pub Landlord, it’s worth scrolling through to find this hidden new format.

Comedian and trivia fanatic Al Murray brings together teams from pubs across the UK in a battle for a tankard, £1,000 and of course, the glory of winning.

The teams will be joined by well-known captains such as Marcus Brigstocke, Kerry Godliman, Hugh Dennis and Phil Jupitus.

Brits love a pub quiz so there’s not much to dislike about this simple competition, which sees teams negotiate various classic rounds including general knowledge, odd one out and mystery object.

To jazz everything up a bit, quiz champ – and still known as ex EastEnder – Shaun Williamson is resident barman, keeping score and going up against the teams, and there’s a house piano player too.

Al says: “You’re going to see some of the finest quizzing minds in the country.” We’re not sure about that, but it’s plenty of fun.
