Help along the way

- ALAN WATERHOUSE, Seaton Delaval

NOW I’m getting on a bit

But I try to make the best of it

I often need help along the way Perhaps that’s why I get those leaflets That come through the letterbox every day

Now I’m not the kind of man

That needs an over fifties plan

And I shouldn’t think I will need a stairlift

So quickly up the stairs I can go

For you see I live in a bungalow There’s all sorts of things to make life A little bit easier to get around

And things to prevent you falling to the ground

Most of all there’s that major preparation

To help treat my arthritis

Sad to say they don’t help when in a crisis

No they don’t excite me for I’ve seen it all before

But those leaflets keep on comin’ through the door

Now I don’t expect miracles

For nothing has worked as yet

But of course that’s what I should expect

But those leaflets keep on comin’

So I’ve tried one or two

I wonder what more can I do

I read them time and again

So I’ll just keep on takin the tablets That help ease the pain

For there’s nothing more to gain

So then I think my time is up when I get that offer

To help with funeral expenses What they don’t know is

I still have my senses
