Magpies must keep on going, says Rondon

-

SALOMON Rondon has insisted Newcastle United must continue looking over their shoulder in the Premier League - despite a stunning win against Everton.

The on-loan West Brom striker sparked the Magpies’ comeback at St James’ Park on Saturday but is now eyeing more points and goals at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Rondon did not even celebrate against Everton after hauling his team back into it and explained to the Chronicle: “I like to celebrate my goals but when you are losing you cannot waste time.

“I wanted to get back so we could score a second one.

“When you are a striker you want to score goals and Ayoze Perez did that and he did well.

“I tried to score a third one but the ball came in too quickly and Ayoze was able to score it.

“We won the game and it was a great performance - but we have to carry on.”

Rondon was one of the key speakers at half-time in the dressing room as Newcastle bounced back from a two-goal deficit to stun the Toffees.

He added: “I always give my opinion.

“I have learned a lot in football and if a team is winning 2-0 at halftime that is not the final result. The game is alive again at 2-1.

“The other team will become nervous and that is what happened against Everton.

“We did really well because we got it back to 2-2 and we kept going to win the game.”

Rondon did take time to talk through his crisp scissor kick which beat Jordan Pickford all ends up.

He said: “I scored a goal at West Brom (vs Southampton) very similar, it was the same volley.

“OK, this time it was not outside the area but the point is we won.

“The point is we won the game and our combination play was fantastic but we have to carry on.

“The job is not done yet so we have to keep going.” Salomon Rondon
