Showdown is looming over Sorensen loan

-

NEWCASTLE United chiefs will hold fresh talks with Blackpool over Elias Sorensen’s loan stint frustration.

Sorensen was not even named as a substitute for the Tangerines’ weekend 2-2 draw with Southend United at Bloomfield Road.

The Magpies had sent a representative to that match to check on Sorensen’s progress.

Yet so far there has been no communication as to why the young Dane has been left out of the Blackpool squad five times since agreeing a move meant to help develop the striker’s career.

Toon boss Rafa Benitez indicated on Friday he had not thrashed out the terms of Sorensen’s loan deal and was unhappy he has played just 32 minutes.

Benitez said: “I am not happy with the fact he was not playing games but at the same time I don’t know what was going on when we did the deal. It is something which is difficult for me.

“Ben Dawson dealt with Blackpool and I thought it was more clear for the lad.”

Blackpool boss Terry McPhillips said: “We have plenty to pick from and we just ask for the lads on the bench and those who are not in the squad to stay patient, wait their turn and stick with us.”

Sorensen’s woe has been compounded by the fact a long list of clubs were keen to take him on loan – including Oxford United – and offer him game-time.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle recall Sorensen back to United to continue playing with the reserves.

That was the case when Dan Barlaser was recalled from Crewe after a similarly unproductive spell last year.
