NON-LEAGUE ROUND-UP

-

SOUTH Shields moved to within four points of the top of the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division with a 2-1 home win against Marine.

Lee Mason put the Mariners in front after seven minutes when he linked up with Blair Adams before sending a low drive inside the far post.

Robert Briggs doubled the lead just after the halfhour when his deflected effort crept past Marine keeper Joe Hilton.

Nathan Brown pulled one back for the visitors 20 minutes into the second half, but South Shields held on to give a further boost to their bid for a fourth consecutive promotion.

In Northern League Division One, Nathan Haslam claimed a win in his first home game in charge of Whitley Bay as they saw off Whickham with a 4-2 win at Hillheads.

The Bay raced into the lead when Luke Salmon fired his side in front on 12 minutes and Olly Martin doubled the lead just before half-time.

Salmon stretched the lead when he capitalised on a defensive error three minutes into the secondhalf.

Dale Burrell pulled one back for the visitors with a stunning effort from the halfway line, but the threegoal advantage was restored less than 60 seconds later when Dan Wright got himself on the scoresheet.

Whickham striker Damien Stevens reduced the arrears with a volley from close range, but that was as good as it got for the visitors.
