SOUTH COAST WIN MATTERS MORE THAN ME SCORING, INSISTS PEREZ

AYOZE Perez knows exactly what it is like to score the winner at the Vitality Stadium - but admits he would sacrifice the chance to be a match day hero if Newcastle United can maintain their winning run.

The Spaniard struck the crucial strike in this fixture back in 2015 on a day when United were under pressure for most of the afternoon but hung for a 1-0 win.

Perez has grabbed seven goals this season and admitted this week he would love to move into Chief Newcastle writer Newcastle’s all-time top-scorer chart in the Premier League.

The former Tenerife man is now just two goals behind Demba Ba and Gary Speed but knows this weekend is all about the team’s success and not individual glory.

When reminded of his heroics four years ago Perez, who has proved to be a bargain signing at £1.6million in 2014, told the Chronicle: “Hopefully I can continue that. I have had a decent run against Bournemouth with a couple of goals. “We will need the same mentality and need to fight for the three points.

“We are still not done and we have to win more games. “That is the idea and what we are thinking about.”

United pulled away from the danger zone and up to 13th place in the top flight last weekend with a 3-2 win over Everton at St James’ Park.

They could actually go ahead of the Cherries this weekend with three points with a top-10 place also within swinging distance. Perez looked back on that crucial win and reflected: “It was key to stick together at 2-0 down.
