FORMER Newcastle United star Michael Owen has denied he has any ‘problem’ with Alan Shearer after his autobiography appeared to expose an ongoing feud.

The former striker, who was managed by Shearer briefly during his time at St James’ Park, spoke about his former friendship with Shearer on Good Morning Britain.

He told Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid that he has “no problems with Alan Shearer at all” after being asked if he wanted to make up with him.

He also said that the pair used to be “big mates” and played golf all the time before the falling out, claiming the issue was Shearer being “disappointed” in him.

Extracts from Owen’s autobiography Reboot included some explosive revelations from his time at Newcastle United, including Shearer’s management.

The feud stems from Shearer questioning Owen’s desire to play for Newcastle and the severity of the injuries that prevented him from playing in the final relegation runin.

Shearer recently used social media to quote a tweet in which Owen admitted he wanted to retire for the last “six or seven years” of his career, with Shearer adding: “Yes, Michael, we thought that also, whilst on £120k a week.”

Hitting back, Owen queried Shearer’s loyalty to Newcastle, claiming he almost joined Liverpool while Sir Bobby Robson was in charge.

Speaking on TV yesterday morning, Owen said he has not made any attempt to contact Shearer and does not expect Shearer to reach out to him either.
