Ten-man Town keep pressure on the leaders

STOCKTON Town moved back into second place in the Northern League Division One table with a 3-1 home win against North Shields.

The Anchors were reduced to 10 men just before half-time when goalkeeper Callum Roberts received a straight red card for a profession­al foul.

But Michael Dunwell’s side made light of being a man down as Jamie Owens, Kevin Hayes and Adam Nicholson all found the net.

Gareth Bainbridge grabbed a late consolatio­n goal for the visitors.

Jarrow continues their impressive form with a 5-0 hammering of Wearside League club West Auckland Tunns in the Durham Challenge Cup Preliminar­y Round.

James Norton and Jonny Evans were on target to give Dave Bell’s side a two-goal lead at half-time.

Phil Gray added a third just after the interval and captain Jordan Mellish stretched the lead to four midway through the second half.

A dominant display was completed when Norton rounded off the scoring by adding a fifth goal two minutes from time.

They will be joined in the first round by Whickham after they secured a 5-0 win at Silksworth C.W.

Max Cowburn scored twice and there was a goal apiece for Dale Burrell, Lee McAndrew and Scott Robson as the Lang Jacks overpowere­d their Wearside League hosts.

A goal in each half from Cameron Old and Aiden King put Sunderland West End on their way to a 2-1 home win against Annfield Plain.

Jamie Gordon pulled a goal back for the visitors in the closing stages but they were unable to force the tie into a penalty shoot-out.

Crook Town were sent out of the competitio­n with a shoot-out defeat against Boldon CA after the two sides played out a 2-2 draw over 90 minutes.

Brandon Slater hit a hat-trick as Billingham Synthonia claimed a 5-2 home win against Wolviston and David Doughty grabbed the only goal of the game as Horden CW won the all-Wearside League tie at Durham United.
