Can we fix it? Yes we can!

-

WE are absolutely over the moon to announce that we have achieved our target for our D.I.Y. F.O.F campaign to fix our fence. An incredible £4,250 has been raised to help us to fix the first part of our fence.

Thank you to every kind person who has supported us with this campaign so far. We will upload some photos to our social media once the new fence posts have been put up so you can see the difference for yourself.

Last week we mentioned the darker nights are coming in so we wanted to highlight the importance of making sure your dog can be seen on the darker nights and mornings. If your dog can’t be seen they are left vulnerable to danger, so please make sure you take the necessary precautions.

We stock a range of blinkers at our Benton shelter for £3.49 and they come in green, pink and orange. A blinker is a light which can attach to your dog’s harness or collar to help them be seen. We also sell poop torches which are great for the winter months. Our reception at Benton stocks these as well as a selection of toys, collars, leads, harness, beds and of course ID discs. You can pop in anytime between 1pm and 6pm to purchase these.

A reminder to those of you who are football mad; we’re now gathering teams for our charity football tournament. This event is happening on Saturday, October 5 2019 from 11am until 3pm at Goals Newcastle, which is located within Gosforth Racecourse.

Team prices are £75 for an adult team and £50 for a children’s team. There will be medals and trophies for winners, food stall, tuck shop, tombola and more – plenty to keep the whole family entertained. If you’re interested in booking a slot for your team, please email events@ dogandcatshelter.com.

Can you help us to keep our animals entertained?

Being in a kennel can be boring for our animals – but not ours! We like to make sure we give them lots of mental stimulation and brain work activities to keep them busy during the day.

To help with this, we’re currently in need of donations of hot dogs, robust chews and treats, Kongs and other puzzle toys.

Animals for homes

We’re very pleased to say that Stevie, the 11-year-old Terrier Crossbreed who we mentioned at the beginning of the month, has now found his forever home. We’re extremely happy for Stevie and we wish him lots of love and happiness in his new home.

We’re looking for experienced owners of Husky, Malamute or Akita-type breeds who may be looking for a new addition to the family due to an increase in these breeds arriving into our care. If you or anyone you know are interested, please pop in to our Rehoming centre at Benton or call us on 0191 215 0435.

Dudley, cat number 584, is approximately three years old and arrived with us in April. He is a very laid-back young boy who needs a little extra time to get used to people. Due to his shy nature, Dudley is looking for a quiet, loving forever home.
