Cestria prove point at Feds

-

DURHAM Cestria earned a point at Liverpool Feds after drawing 0-0.

Despite both sides scoring freely of late - the Merseysiders winning 4-0 at Newcastle United last week - chances were limited for both sides.

Cestria, who have registered 11 goals in their last two matches, including hitting Newcastle for six, had a late penalty appeal waved away as both teams settled for a point.

In a midweek match, Chester -le-Street Town dropped their first points, drawing 4-4 with visitors Norton and Stockton Ancients.

An eleventh-minute Bianca Owens penalty was added to by Eve Marshall on 33 minutes to put Norton 2-0 up.

The hosts then halved the deficit when Nichole Havery converted a penalty.

However, Nyci Thorns restored the two-goal cushion two minutes before the break.

In first-half injury time, Laura Hockaday made it 3-2, ending an entertaining first half.

Town brought themselves level eight minutes into the second half as Anna Collin, with a rare goal, equalised - and then took the lead for the first time, Havery with another penalty 15 minutes later.

On 75 minutes Maddy Atkinson made it 4-4.

Town were then beaten 5-1 at home by Leeds United.

Holly Orr gave Leeds a thirdminute lead, cancelled out 13 minutes later when Lynsey Longhurst headed home for Town.

Leeds went in at the break 2-1 up when Rebecca Hunt slotted home on 37 minutes.

Hunt scored again eight minutes into the second period, shooting home from the edge of the area.

Hunt then completed her hattrick with a powerful shot after 70 minutes before Jodie Hunter, from 30 yards out, drove home 11 minutes later. In the Premier Division Sunderland triumphed 4-1 at Huddersfield Town.

The hosts took a third-minute lead through Ellie White, a lead they held to the break.

A gifted equaliser came 60 seconds into the second period when Huddersfield’s goalkeeper spilled a cross, allowing Keira Ramshaw to score.

Sunderland went in front on 70 minutes with a solo effort from Katie Barker.

Two minutes later it was 3-1, Grace McCatty poking home following a corner.

Ten minutes from time, Bridget Galloway slotted home a rebound after Jessica Brown’s shot was palmed away by the goalkeeper.

Sunderland are back at home at Eppleton CW at Hetton-le-Hole on Sunday.

They play Burnley in a League Cup preliminary round match.
