Mohawks off the mark in league after huge victory over Barons

WHITLEY Mohawks gained their first victory in English Under-13 North Division Two this season with a comprehens­ive victory over Solihull Barons at Hillheads.

The home side went ahead after Oliver Jardine fed Sam Hails for the opening goal at 02.34.

Max Torre was sitting out a two-minute minor interferen­ce call when the Mohawks struck again.

Hails repayed the compliment for Jardine to double the lead at 06.50 and from the restart Dylan Towndrow claimed an unassisted goal for 3-0.

The score had reached 5-0 by the end of the first period with Chris West - assisted on Jack McVeigh scoring at 11.10 and 16 seconds later George Cowey netting.

Mohawks found the net for their sixth goal at 19.16 courtesy of an Ethan Dunn strike. Sam Stoodley picking up an assist.

Mohawks were again shorthande­d, Ben Wood in the penalty box with Torre nabbing the goal and Jardine the assist.

Jardine picked up his second goal of the game from a Stoodley assist at 26.06 and Torre also added his second unassisted at 28.27 for a 9-0 lead.

There were more goals to come in the final period and only two minutes had elapsed when Towndrow scored his second of the game, Chris West picking up an assist.

Cowey became the fourth Mohawks’ player to register a brace at 35.01 and 35 seconds later Jack Williams registered his first point of the game to complete the scoring.

When the scorelines reach a 12-goal winning margin at under-13, under-15 and under- 18 levels no further goals are recorded and the “Mercy Rule” comes in to play.

Penalties are recorded and the game continues to the end.

■■WHITLEY Arrows’ English Under 11 North League match at Hillheads also had the “Mercy Rule” in play as they defeated Widnes Wild 9-1.

■■WHITLEY Braves suffered their second heavy defeat of the season in English Under-18 North Division One, going down 12-0 to Billingham Stars at the Forum Ice Arena.
