Eight-goal Shields go top by beating Blyth

WITH top team Stockton Churches Portrack having a week off, North Shields Community Christians and Hillsong Newcastle had the opportunit­y to go top of the pile.

Shields took that chance with an 8-1 victory over Blyth Family Church.

Adrian Wood had Shields up and running after just five minutes.

That was followed by Rob Watson (20) and a double from Amin Kashy for 4-0 at the break.

Two penalties within four minutes from Scott Purcell advanced the score to 6-0.

Todd Clarkson and Jordan Hinds then got in on the act for 8-0 before Ryan Swinney grabbed a consolatio­n strike for Blyth.

Hillsong Newcastle were at home to Bill Quay Community Church, Lee Wilson celebratin­g a first-half hattrick for Hillsong.

Michael Lawrence nabbed a double before Connor Hellens notched a goal for Bill Quay on 40 minutes to give Hillsong a 5-1 half-time advantage.

Scott Hall and Jamie Walker converted in the second half for a 7-1 victory as Hillsong went second.

Having won their first three games, Jesmond Parish Church took a 2-0 half-time lead courtesy of from Dan McGrane (five minutes) and Jacob Teasdale (40) against YAV SIFF.

Then, in the space of 15 secondhalf minutes, Mensah Koffi and Diaby Hamed (2) turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead.

Hawraz Salah made it 4-2 and William Sekete scored in the 90th minute.

A goal in added-on time for McGrane could not prevent YAV from securing a 5-3 success and their first win of the season, Jesmond suffering their first defeat.

Heaton Saints travelled to Saint John’s Snods Edge and raced into a 4-0 half-time lead thanks to strikes from Alan Swinburne, Stuart Patterson and Graham and Carl Thompson.

Ross Wilson replied after the break for Snod’s Edge.

Saint Charles RC Church came from 3-0 down to prevail 5-3 against visitors Jubilee Church Teesside.

David Healy, Duncan Falconer (2), Declan Stokoe and Joey Burgess notched for the Saints.
