DEFENDING THE GUILTY

BBC2, 10pm

AFTER last week’s indiscretion that saw trainee barrister Will (Will Sharpe) sleep with a juror, he now wonders whether or not to tell his girlfriend the truth.

Meanwhile, there are no such secrets at work where everyone is talking about it. But head of chambers, Miles, played by a brilliant Mark Bonnar, is hugely impressed with Will’s womanising behaviour.

This newfound notoriety may even offer Will an opportunity to get ahead of his fellow trainees when chauvinist Miles offers him the case that everyone wants.

Elsewhere, Caroline (Katherine Parkinson) could be in the running to be a QC, so meets with a consultant to help iron out any problems.

Unfortunately the consultant has done a quick straw poll on Caroline’s reputation, with one word springing up quite often: “Horrible”.

“I’m a barrister, not a reporter for The One Show,” snaps Caroline. Indeed.

In other news, she must defend an unpleasant, violent client who the jury will hate.

THE CAPTURE

BBC1, 9pm

THERE’S something very weird going on. Things happen in real life, but on CCTV it doesn’t happen, or vice versa.

In this drama for the modern age, we are learning fast that CCTV images can be tampered with, nothing is as it seems, there’s fake news everywhere and you can never see the whole picture. It’s unsettling to say the least.

Last we saw, Shaun (Callum Turner) had discovered the body of missing Hannah Roberts in the boot of the car he was driving. He doesn’t have any idea how she got there.

As viewers, we don’t know whether he killed her or not. Or whether he did but doesn’t remember.

Meanwhile, Detective Inspector Carey (Holliday Grainger) is developing a theory as the answers begin to reveal themselves.

And after evading the police, Shaun finds himself trusting a mysterious stranger who promises to lead him to the truth.

The conspiracy theories are stacking up in this gripping thriller – viewers place your bets.
