The Saints go marching in - to a win
THERE were straightforward wins for St Chads over Mount B and Mount A over Prudhoe in the Northumberland Winter League’s Premier Division.
St Chads beat Mount B 7-3, Keith Weatherby winning three games and supported by Paul Baines and Chris Blake, who won two games each.
Mount A defeated Prudhoe 9-1 with Bailey Pye, Anth Ainley and Phil Prady all triumphing in their three matches.
In Division One there were victories for Mitford, Tyneside A and Mount D.
Mitford defeated Ouston A 6-4, Michael Bull taking his three games for Mitford.
Tyneside A overcame Prudhoe B with Mark Kimberley clinching three victories for Tyneside.
Mount D saw off Cramlington Tigers 8-2, Shirley Gelder and Ethan Brown with treble successes for the Mount.
In Division Two, Cramlington Swifts accounted for Ouston C 9-1 and Old England Crocks prevailed 8-2 against Matfen Tribunes.
The other three fixtures in this division proved much closer.
Ouston B edged out Cramlington Trojans 6-4 while Mount E against Cramlington Reivers and Cramlington Falcons against Tyneside B were both 5-5 draws.
In Division Three, Matfen Whitley Chapel disposed of Ouston D 9-1.
Newton B defeated Saints 7-3 thanks to John Henderson and John Manual, who both won three games.
The match between Tyneside C and Brandon Bravehearts ended 7-3 in favour of Brandon.
The clash between Matfen Cohorts and Cramlington Cobras was a 5-5 draw.
There were just two fixtures in Division Four.
Cramlington Dragons enjoyed a straightforward 9-1 success over Cramlington Magpies, Adrian Barnes and Pauline Long both winning their three games.
The second match was a 5-5 draw between Cramlington Lyons and Cramlington Dynamos. ■■SHIRLEY Gelder was part of the England over-60s team which won gold at the seventh international veterans’ team event in Hilversum, Holland.
England were unbeaten in their four matches against England B, Czech Republic and two German squads.
