- By MARK CARRUTHERS

JOSH Gillies and Jon Shaw were on target as South Shields maintained their place at the top of the Premier Division table with a 2-0 home win against Gainsborough Trinity.

Former Gateshead and Darlington attacking midfielder Gillies struck just before half-time to give the Mariners a narrow lead at the interval.

The visitors were reduced to ten men on 68 minutes when Ash Worsfold received a straight red card for a poor challenge on Gary Brown.

Their hosts took until injurytime to confirm their win when Shaw doubled their lead after good work from Millenic Alli.
