Hebburn look to consolidate their position

- By MARK CARRUTHERS

DIVISION One leaders Hebburn Town will look to put a disappointing week behind them when they visit Whickham tomorrow.

The Hornets are five points clear at the top of the table ahead of the game at the Glebe.

However, they wasted two opportunities to increase their advantage with a home defeat against Thornaby and a draw at Sunderland RCA in midweek.

Hornets’ manager Kevin Bolam confirmed he will be without the unavailable Luke Sullivan and Danny Carson.

Whickham will be boosted by the return of midfielder Matty Pattison and striker Carl Finnigan after the duo completed three-match suspensions.

Two sides hoping for a slip-up by Hebburn will meet at the Coverall Stadium as second-placed Stockton Town entertain a Consett side boosted by Joe Sloan’s return from suspension.

North Shields will check on the fitness of striker Gareth Bainbridge ahead of their home fixture against Billingham Town.

The Robins legend limped out during the early stages of last Saturday’s 3-0 win at Penrith.

Ashington captain Curtis Coppen has been ruled out of the Colliers’ home clash with Ryhope CW.

There could be further bad news for manager Ian Skinner as he awaits news on the fitness of Damien Stevens, Dominic Price and Dylan Williamson.

Whitley Bay are targeting their first win in six league games when they travel to Newton Aycliffe and Thornaby will hope to build on last weekend’s impressive victory at leaders Hebburn Town when they host Penrith.

Sunderland RCA have striker Mark Davison available again for their home game against in-form West Auckland Town.

Northallerton Town will look to move away from the lower reaches of the table when they entertain Bishop Auckland at the Calvert Stadium.

Guisborough Town could be without Steven Snaith and Mason McNeill for their visit to Newcastle Benfield and Seaham Red Star captain David Robinson will sit out his side’s visit to Shildon as he completes a three-match ban.

In Division Two, Durham City visit Esh Winning and leaders Redcar Athletic go to Kimberley Park to face a Newcastle Uni side chasing a third league win in a row.
