WHITLEY Mohawks went to the top of English Under-13 North Division Two after they defeated Sutton Sting 12-8 at the Lammas Centre.

It was their second win of the campaign after being defeated 3-2 by Kingston Sharks in their opening game.

The visitors took the lead in the fifth minute through Dylan Towndrow, Jack Williams picking up an assist.

The Sting were on level terms at 12.32 through their captain Owen Cutts.

However, the Mohawks did not take long to respond as Ben Wood regained their advantage at 14.13, George Cowey aiding with an assist.

From the restart it took just nine seconds for parity to be restored, Sebastian Staley on target.

Sutton went ahead for the first time with 68 seconds having elapsed at the start of the second period.

Their joy did not last for very long, though, as Chris West nabbed his first goal of the season within a minute for 3-3.

It continued to be nip and tuck and at 18.29 Mohawks regained the lead, Ethan Dunn the goalscorer with Max Torre providing the assist.

Sting had a player sitting in the penalty box when they made it 4-4, Veal with his second goal of the game.

The Mohawks replied with four goals in under four minutes to end the middle period 8-4 ahead.

Cowey fed Towndrow at 26.32 and 16 seconds later Dunn netted his second of the game and fourth for the season.

The visitors were short-handed when Towndrow completed his hat-trick and struck his fifth goal of the season at 29.15.

The next Whitley goal came with just 17 seconds remaining in the period - Kian Kennedy with his first of the campaign.

Sutton reduce the deficit early in the final period with two goals in as many minutes from Cutts and Staley.
