-

TYNEMET and Monkseaton fought out a nine-goal ECFA Cat One League clash - the home side coming out on top 5-4 despite trailing by two goals at half-time.

Monkseaton flew out of the traps and deservedly went ahead with a well-worked goal.

TyneMet found themselves further behind when a strong strike was not held by Jack McSherry in the home goal and Monkseaton’s striker tapped home.

TyneMet had to improve - and did when Jamie Clark produced a fantastic free-kick to reduce the arrears.

TyneMet pushed for the equaliser but left themselves open to a counter-attack.

Monkseaton took advantage and went further ahead with their third goal with only half an hour played.

TyneMet refused to lie down and a Paul Van Zandvliet penalty brought them back to within one goal with half-time approaching.

However, 30 seconds later they again found themselves two goals behind following a defensive mix-up.

TyneMet turned the screw in the second half and took the game to their opponents.

A corner was headed back across goal, which forced a Monkseaton defender to head into his own net with 20 minutes to play.

TyneMet smelt blood and went for the equaliser.

It came via a corner which was whipped into a dangerous area and forced home by Kai Slinn to draw the teams level with five minutes to go.

TyneMet pushed for the winning goal their second-half performance deserved - and it came on 90 minutes,

Slinn again edged ahead of his man and slotted home from close range to put the home side in the lead for the first time in the fixture.

With seconds left TyneMet saw the match out to record a win which did not look possible at half -time.
