Here’s to a productive winter

-

THE mornings are getting darker and the windows are getting frostier, so what better time for us to start planning all things Christmas?

Yes, you heard us right, it’s never too soon to start thinking of mince pies, mulled wine and presents under the tree.

This week at Team Sunshine we put our heads together for a team planning day, with Christmas firmly on the agenda.

Armed with lots of sweet treats, a multi-pack of pens and paper and minds all brimming with ideas, we headed to Northumberland Street, where we were very kindly lent a ‘planning room’ by Newcastle Building Society.

It’s true what they say – six heads are better than one (or something like that) and we came up with lots of exciting campaigns, events and experiences that we cannot wait to share with you over the coming few months.

If you would like to get involved or keep up to date with our regular charitable events, you can tweet us @thesunshine_fund and follow us on Facebook and Instagram. We love hearing from you.

This week we announced to our lovely followers that we only have a few tables remaining at our annual Question of Sport event.

A firm favourite in our calendars, the charity quiz and dinner is the only event of its kind in the North East so be sure to check it out and bag your ticket before they’re all gone.

Continuing the wintry theme, on Friday evening team members and Sunshine families were treated to a wonderful trip seeing Disney on Ice at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena. The arena captioTnhceaSpxuxnsxhxixne capxxFcuanpdtitoenaxmxxat dhgsfdDgisdnhegyxoynhyIcxe was able to provide accessible seating for those who needed it, meaning that all the children were able to enjoy the performance at its best.

And what a fantastic performance it was.

Celebrating more than 100 years of magic, some of Disney’s most wellloved characters donned skates and enchanted the audience.

As they sang along to classic songs, such as favourites Let it Go, You’ve Got a Friend in Me and Hakuna Matata, it was wonderful to see the children charmed by the magic of Disney.

“The Sunshine Fund made my young man very, very happy by allowing him to enjoy Disney on Ice – an extra-special treat,” said Louise, mum to Tom and one our fabulous Sunshine families. Normally we would not buy tickets to it as Tom may or may not have been able to cope with too much noise. Thankfully he loved it and we only stepped out a couple of times.”

We are so very grateful to the people who support us to be able to provide these experiences, so special thanks to Lyn Spencer at White Hot Communications and the Disney on Ice team for donating tickets, so that we could share this fabulous experience and leave families with memories lasting a lifetime.
