Mitsubishi driving down prices on top models to helps sales hit top gear

- By STEVE HUGHES

MITSUBISHI has slashed the prices of some of its vehicles by more than a whopping £7,000 in a bid to boost sales.

The cost of the Shogun Sport Commercial tumbled by a massive £7,340 excluding VAT, while the L200 Challenger pick-up falls by £4,200.

Both vehicles are offered with personal contract hire and hire purchase deals, although the interest rate is a hefty 7% while the bank base rate is less than 1%.

However, for those who borrow from a bank at a lower rate and then pay cash, savings are great.

On the basis of figures provided by Mitsubishi, it means the price of the L200 Challenger falls from £27,700 to a new low of £23,500 whilethe Shogun Sport Commercial drops from £33,680 to just £26,344.

The Mitsubishi L200 Challenger is a high-specification version of the standard L200 pick-up based on the previous-generation Series 5 range.

Offered in three colours of white, grey and black, the vehicle has black 17-inch alloy wheels and bespoke black detailing including the front grille and front bumper accents, front fog lamp surrounds, wheel arch extensions, side steps, door mirrors, door handles and rear bumper.

The interior has heated black leather seats, with electric adjustment on the driver’s seat, plus a seven-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth, DAB digital radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and an integrated reversing camera.

In terms of hardware, the Challenger uses the proven SuperSelect 4WD system which allows it to be driven in four-wheel drive at any speed and is switchable from two-wheel to four-wheel drive at speeds of up to 60mph via a dial selector.

The Challenger can tow up to three and a half tonnes and has a payload of one tonne, which classifies it as a commercial vehicle for taxation purposes.

The Shogun Sport Commercial has a flat rear load area which is one metre wide between the rear wheel arches and almost two metres deep, offering about 1,500 litres of cargo space.

It has a maximum load capacity of 605KG and a maximum towing capacity of 3.1 tonnes braked.
