BRITAIN’S BIGGEST WARSHIP GOES TO SEA Tomorrow, BBC2, 8pm
THIS new series follows the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth as it sets out on its first transatlantic crossing, a four-month deployment on the high seas which has the primary purpose of putting the top secret F-35B Lightning Stealth Fighter to the test.
Within hours of leaving Portsmouth, the vessel encounters a Russian warship and needs to take evasive action. The crew also has to deal with floods and fuel leaks on the way to Florida. But when the
Queen Elizabeth does dock in Mayport Naval Station, over a thousand British sailors swarm ashore, taking local bars – and the Florida police – by surprise.
THE MOUNTAIN
Monday, ITV, regions vary
THIS new series brings viewers 12 months in the life of Mount Snowdon. Cameras capture the beauty of its seasons and the lives of the people who live and work around the highest peak in England and Wales.
We meet a mountainside cafe owner and those working on the small railway which takes travellers to the summit.
THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF: THE FINAL Tuesday, Channel 4, 8pm
PAUL HOLLYWOOD and Prue Leith will be putting the final few bakers through their paces, while Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding sprinkle liberal doses of irreverence over the proceedings.
The Signature is a chocolate cake; a souffle is the Technical, and for the Showstopper hopefuls must create a stunning visual illusion using only cake, sweet bread and biscuits. After 10 weeks, only one of the bakers can be crowned the winner, but who will it be?
GUILT Wednesday, BBC2, 9pm
MARK BONNAR stars in a new drama from writer Neil Forsyth.
It centres on two brothers – lawyer Max (Bonnar) and record shop owner Jake (Jamie Sives) – who accidentally run down an old man, Walter, on their way home from a wedding. Uninsured and drunk, Jake is persuaded by Max to cover up their lethal deed. They hope the death will be passed off as natural causes, but that’s scuppered when neighbours and relatives suspect Walter’s death wasn’t as innocent as it seems.
THE SECRET LIFE OF THE ZOO Thursday, Channel 4, 8pm
CAMERAS return to Chester Zoo for series eight of the engaging saga. The Asian elephants are still recovering from the deaths of two calves who contracted a herpes virus last year. Keepers and vets make an early diagnosis when two-year-old Indali, the youngest remaining calf, tests positive for the same virus. They begin a treatment that might be her only chance of survival – and could offer hope for the species globally. The fact this has never been done before only adds to the pressure.
