COMPETING with thousands of others across the UK, this has been voted Nursery of the Year.

Staff went to the annual Nursery World Awards in London, which recognises and celebrates best practice in early years and childcare.

Parents and staff from Spring in Bensham, are over the moon that the nursery’s hard work is being recognised nationally.

It is renowned across Gateshead for providing high quality care and education for children aged up to five.

The nursery is run by leading UK charity Action for Children.

Amiee Watson, parent of twoyear-old Zachary Watson who attends Spring Bensham, is delighted the nursery’s work is being recognised.

She said: “The nursery and staff have been a lifesaver for us as Zachary has life-threatening brittle asthma.

“Had the staff not agreed to do the asthma care training in their own time he wouldn’t have been able to attend the nursery, or I would not have been able to go back to work feeling he was in safe hands and content.

“Zachary has come on amazing lywith his speech, language and understanding, and the staff are fantastic with his physical care needs and in contacting myself if they think he needs to be home,” she added.

“I really don’t know what I would have done without Spring Bensham and the amazing staff, they truly are a fantastic team.”

The nursery provides children with access to their stimulating outdoor area, providing each child the opportunity to enjoy outdoor play and learning in natural settings.

Younger children also have their own garden and frequently enjoy visits to local schools, shops and the library.

Shelley Raine, mum of two-yearold Willow Carlin said: “It was really important to us that we found a nursery where Willow would thrive, but above all be happy and comfortable.

“We have definitely found that at Spring Bensham. The staff here are like extended members of Willow’s family.

“The staff know her likes and dislikes and care for her in a way that we do at home.

“The activities stretch Willow and it’s lovely when we get updates via the Family app so we can see what she’s been up to during the day.

“Spring Bensham thoroughly deserve this award, and I’m proud that my daughter attends the best nursery in the UK!”

There are 50 Spring Nurseries by Action for Children across the country, along with 18 out of school and holiday clubs, providing exceptional, high-quality education and childcare for children up to eleven years old.

Helen Bowlby, early years and childcare manager at Spring Bensham said: “It was an amazing experience to be part of the 2019 Nursery World awards. To win Nursery of the Year is just unbelievable.

“I am extremely proud and privileged to lead the team at Spring Bensham, each and every one of whom is committed to giving children the best start in life by offering care based on children’s experiences, interests and skills as well as developing their self-esteem and equipping them with the practical skills they need as they grow up.

“Our expert staff are passionate and fully committed to providing outstanding care and education for every child they look after to ensure they have a safe and happy childhood.”
