£40m star Joe needs more time and service

- By LEE RYDER The Chronicle:

STEVE Bruce says Joelinton will finds his feet with Newcastle United – but currently needs the support of every player and back-room member in order to get through his barren run in front of goal.

The £40million man has scored just once in the Premier League since his move from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim but Bruce is confident that the goals will flow for him eventually.

Joelinton was starved of decent service against Wolverhampton Wanderers, not for the first time during this campaign.

And in a season in which Japanese forward Yoshinori Muto has already complained about feeling “isolated” in the final third, Bruce has demanded his players up their game in the final third.

When asked about Joelinton’s struggles since his arrival, Bruce told “We have seen Nicolas Pépé for Arsenal recently get off the mark.

“It takes time. He’s a £72million player, but no matter what your price tag is, it takes time to adjust, especially when you are young like Joe. He’s only at the start of his career.

“Like all strikers they need a goal, you seen against Spurs when he scored, he was a different proposition after it.

“He needs, like all strikers, to score.” And Bruce added that Joelinton will require some extra TLC to help him settle at the club after a tough adjustment period since arriving from Germany.

The Magpies head coach said: “What he needs is everybody’s help and everybody’s support and he will be fine. He is willing and capable.

“Let’s hope that goal comes soon.”
