Tear of joy for Dom loan extension

- By JEFF BOWRON

VANARAMA National League North club Gateshead have agreed a long-term extension to Huddersfield Town winger Dom Tear’s loan on Tyneside.

Tear celebrated his 20th birthday last week and is expected to be in the Heed side against Guiseley at the International Stadium today.

The Yorkshireman initially came to Gateshead on a onemonth loan that was extended for a further month.

It took until the final Saturday of his first loan spell to be handed his first start for the Tynesiders.

Since then the young Terrier has started every game as Gateshead embarked on a run of seven wins from eight games.

Tear famously missed his sister’s wedding to play for Gateshead in their FA Cup win at Kidsgrove.

His reward should be a maiden appearance in the first round of the FA Cup against Oldham next Sunday.

Gateshead player-manager Mike Williamson said: “Dom Tear has done very well for us and is a good professional with a bright future.

“He had to be patient before he got his chance, which he has taken with both hands.

“He has worked hard to get into the team and stay there, and we always wanted to keep him longer at the club.”

Gateshead will also attempt to keep seven-goal striker Josh Kayode on loan for the rest of the season.

The teenage Rotherham United loanee’s half-season loan is due to end in January.

Gateshead’s other three loan players, Liam Agnew, Toby Lees and Boro keeper Brad James, are all until the end of the season.
