Bird are flying so high after a big win in Bowl

HANDENHOLD Bird Inn progressed to round two of the Iveson Bowl in commanding style.

The Inn defeated Horse and Groom 9-1 in the second leg of their firstround tie to go through 16-1 on aggregate.

Oliver Forsyth celebrated a hattrick, added to by braces from Tom Illingwort­h and Liam Tannahill and a Shane Swift strike.

Joining them are Lanchester Cricket Club, whose 3-2 second-leg victory secured a 7-6 aggregate result against Real Vulcan Winlaton.

Steven Smithson (3) was Lanchester’s scorer, Tom Lippeat and Michael Harrison for Real.

Consett Scotch Arms defeated Crookhall Beck 9-2 in the first round of the Consett Charity Cup.

Andrew Rennoldson (3), Sean Wilson, Luke Richardson, Joe Johnson, Dan Walker, Rob McConnell and Andrew Donaghy struck for the winners, Kyle Routledge (2) for the Beck.

Also through to round two are Blackhall Mill and Chopwelll, who were 5-0 winners against Oxhill Central thanks to Derek Waters, Keiron Adamson, Carl Smith, Keith Main and Chris Hill.

In the first round of the Durham Sunday Cup, East Stanley WMC triumphed 4-2 at Bowburn, Jamie Leathard (2), Jonny Hewitson and Colin Snaiham on target.

In Division Two, Stanley Ball Alley were emphatic 7-2 winners at Catchgate Community Youth.

Jack Watson (3), Craig Shaw, Liam Dixon, Jamie Blanchard and an own goal for Alley, Craig Hampton and Jake Alivez for Catchgate.

■ ALL games in the Standard Security Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League were postponed due to the weather.

■ A1 ALLERDENE were the day’s top scorers in the Gateshead Sunday League’s Bob Curry Cup, triumphing 13-2 at Dougie’s Tavern.

Martin Summersett and Chris Hewitt both hit hat-tricks, while Kyle Nelson and Kieran McPherson chipped in with doubles. Simon Young, Conner Woods and Danny Watkins also registered.

Tudor Rose defeated Blue Star 5-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Martin Kelly and a brace from Scott Dinning, Blue Star’s counter courtesy of an own goal.

Whickham Coachman are through to the last eight - but they needed a penalty shoot-out to get past Stormont Main.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw, the Coachies’ goals from Alex White and Matty Baldwin and Stormont Main’s counters from Jordan McClarence and Joe Joyce. The Coachman prevailed 4-3 on penalties.

■ THE only game played in the North East Sunday League saw Cosy Dove prevail 6-0 at Wallsend Rangers in the John Cummings Challenge Cup Paul Hall with four goals.
