Great history titles at book event
THE much-anticipated Books on Tyne festival begins on Saturday.
The event is a celebration of literature and reading which aims to attract the best authors from around the UK, as well as promote regional talent.
Run in partnership between Newcastle City Library and the Lit and Phil, the festival is in its ninth year and continues to grow.
Among the books in focus will be Dan Jackson’s authoritative new history of the North East and its people, titled The Northumbrians. Dan, pictured, will appearing to talk about his book.
Former Newcastle United footballer Paul Ferris will be discussing the success of his recent award-winning The Boy on the Shed.
This year there is a real treat for music fans with the appearance of one of the country’s most renowned rock journalists and authors, David Hepworth.
Bob Smeaton will also be in attendance. Bob worked with The Beatles to produce their historic Anthology TV series. He has spent much of his life working in the music industry and his book describes his journey from Benwell to the Beatles.
Other local interest will be provided by the presence of author and TV historian John Grundy, and the former Labour politician Joyce Quin and author of Angels of the North: Notable Women of the North East.
Away from history titles, there is a wide range of speakers and books for visitors to enjoy.
The festival which runs from Saturday, November 23, to Saturday, November 30, welcomes all. Events are held in a relaxed atmosphere at Newcastle City Library and the Lit and Phil Library.
