Slessor on cue for Ell of a title treble
ELLIOT Slessor has become the first player to win both Whitley Bay SC’s main handicapped event and the highest break award for a third consecutive week.
The Wallsend potter achieved the honour by beating Gateshead’s Daniel Mallatt 3-1 - a run of 97 clinching him the deciding fourth frame.
Competing in a field of 17, Slessor’s 3-1 successes against Shields scratch player Craig Sexton and Fenham’s Daniel Lozinski (off 60) and a deciding-frame win over Battle Hill’s Billy Hunter (off 30) earned him his place in the final.
Mallatt (off 30) registered a 3-2 defeat of Blyth’s Tony Robson (level) and 3-1 victories over Gateshead’s Mark Johnson (level) and Whitley’s Tim Taylor (gave 15).
Already conceding a 70-points-aframe start in the decider, Slessor only allowed Mallatt to score 14 points in the first frame and 10 in the second while he accumulated 94 and 116 to race 2-0 in front.
After taking the close-fought third on the black ball 94-90 to reduce the deficit, Mallatt had to take a back seat after scoring 10 as Slessor set about racking up the highest break of the day to claim the fourth frame 104-80.
Making the most of a five-point start, Gateshead’s Brian Hall won the best-of-three-frame plate final thanks to a 2-1 defeat of local Tony Brown.
