I would love to come back, says Rondon

- Writes CHRIS KNIGHT.

FORMER Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon admits he would love to return to the club one day,

The No 9 endeared himself to the Toon Army last year during a season-long loan spell from West Brom, netting 12 times in blackand-white.

The veteran striker – who is fondly remembered as one of the ‘Three Amigos’ alongside Ayoze Perez and Miguel Almiron – followed Rafa Benitez to Dalian Professional at the end of the campaign.

Rondon insists he remains committed to the Chinese Super League outfit, but confesses he would love to return to Tyneside and play in front of the St James’ Park crowd once again.

The Venezuela international told the Mirror: “If you ask me again if I want to come back then of course. I have no doubt about going back to Newcastle.

“St James’ Park is so big. I remember going there for the first time, I think my two kids were with me, I went for a walk in the stadium and I took a picture when I went in the entrance.

“Then you think 50,000 fans will be there and my daughter said, ‘Dad, you will play here...?’ I will try!

“It was fantastic for me. To play there as a player is fantastic.

“I love to watch the videos, the clips of the games and that game against Everton and that’s why if there was a chance to go back to England in January – if it was Newcastle, in my heart there will always be a bigger space for Newcastle.

“I think about the noise, the supporters all of the time. I love the pressure. It’s the best. They are pushing me, I have to be at my best and then I score – and the noise is amazing.”

“But of course my priority now is in China and we will see what happens with the virus and the league. But if you give me the chance to come back then I will take it.”

The possibility of a takeover is currently dominating the agenda on Tyneside, and Rondon added: “It’s interesting what’s happening, I follow it very closely.

“I hope it will be a good decision because I think Newcastle can be such a big team in the Premier League.

“With the right project then the club could be top five, top four. It could be amazing for the club.”
