Fans ready to go crazy again - Lua

- By SEAN MCCORMICK

LOMANA LuaLua believes a Newcastle United takeover would be ‘like meeting Jesus’ for Magpies fans who ‘need to fall back in love with football again.’

News emerged over three weeks ago that PCP Capital Partners’ takeover bid for the club had reached the Premier League’s test stage.

The bid, spearheaded by financier Amanda Staveley and involving the Reuben brothers, Simon and David, is backed by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

Fans are now waiting for the Premier League to give the green light to the deal but it has not stopped them getting excited for the post-Mike Ashley era.

LuaLua played for Newcastle under Sir Bobby Robson when United were competing for the Premier League and playing in the Champions League and he believes the ‘city would go crazy’ if there was hope of the club returning to past glories.

“I really hope so,” LuaLua said when asked whether he believes Newcastle can build something special under the new owners.

“Newcastle is a culture. The whole place, the whole city.

“Every week you have 50,000, that is how much they love the club.

“Sometimes I was playing and I was tired but the fans gave you that extra energy.

“The football we were playing, we had so much flair.

“The way Sir Bobby had us playing was unbelievable.

“We had Alan Shearer there to finish all the action and we were playing for a team which was entertaining the fans.

“It would be great for the fans if they can win something. It would be like meeting Jesus.

“It would be so exciting, you would not believe it. The city would just go crazy.

“The fans just need to fall back in love with football again.”
