BEST OF THE REST
X-RAY EARTH
Nat Geo, 8pm
LIKE a nightmarish real life horror movie, this documentary asks whether the world could be hit by the biggest natural disaster on the planet…. Like we haven’t got enough going on.
It’s the first episode of a series that looks through scientists’ eyes at the Earth we cannot see, beginning with what lies beneath Yellowstone National park.
X-raying the Earth reveals the largest volcano on the planet. It has erupted many times before on a scale so big that it has plunged the Earth into a volcanic winter.
These super eruptions were millions of years ago, with the most recent approximately 630,000 years ago, but could it happen again?
“It would be just as bad or maybe worse than an asteroid impact,” says one scientist, while another adds: “People and animals would be crushed alive.”
Meeting experts in the field, we find out what could trigger a future volcano apocalypse.
Not exactly fun viewing, but fascinating nonetheless.
I’LL GET THIS
BBC2, 10pm
“PLEASE place your credit cards in the centre of the table.” Words to unnerve even the most relaxed of spenders.
This is the slightly random but funny game of dinner party jeopardy that sees an eclectic group of celebs play to avoid paying the bill.
Over a few courses, several bottles of wine and some provocative dinner table games, this usually results in some revealing or embarrassing moments and occasionally some harsh words.
In tonight’s final episode, the dinner guests you’d never expect to see together are Sue Perkins, Mike Tindall, Johnny Vegas, Fleur East and John Barnes.
Johnny is already at a disadvantage after two teeth fell out eating paté recently.
Games include guessing the weight of the waiter, guessing the facial expression and voting for the most talented and famous fellow guests.
With some very pricey food and drink flowing, the games get tougher and it’ll be a very expensive night for someone.
