NFL star reveals desire to visit city after Netflix documentary

-

THE two rollercoaster seasons captured by Netflix series Sunderland ‘Til I Die has won the Black Cats a new army of fans around the world.

While supporters on Wearside know all about the highs and lows of following their club, their dedication and passion has been showcased to a global audience.

But few would have predicted the programme would have had such an effect on one of the legendary names in “football” in the USA.

Of course, we’re talking American Football, but the man known throughout the NFL as the ‘Great Dane’ – Morten Andersen – has revealed just how big an impact watching ‘Sunderland ‘Til I Die’ has had on him.

Andersen is a legend of the game in the States, and holds the record for the most number of NFL appearances (382). Not only that, but the kicker has held records for field goals and points scored over a season.

But his heart has been moved by watching Sunderland’s fortunes via the Netflix series, and he aims to come to the Stadium of Light to take in a game when football resumes.

“I’ve been watching Sunderland ‘Til I Die on Netflix and it’s given me this appreciation for Sunderland and the Stadium of Light,” he told betoclock, for whom he is an ambassador.

“It’s iconic being a blue-collar place with a working port, I love it. It’s taught me a lot about the city of

Sunderland and its people. Now I want to go and visit Sunderland and watch a game. The Sunderland program blew my mind because the ambition for them to get back to the top flight but first having to get into the Championship was staggering.

“The way the documentary follows the fans, the fans would go to all the games home and away, it was crazy.

“The dedication of the fanbase to that football team, and the anger when they lost. I was so invested!”
