BUILDER UPDATES ITS 2017 APPLICATION

FRESH images showing how a major North Tyneside development could look have been unveiled.

North Tyneside Council’s planning committee voted to approve proposals for 83 homes on Howdon Green Industrial Estate in 2017.

Now, Persimmon Homes has submitted a “reserved matters” application which outlines details such as the scheme’s access, layout, scale and appearance.

The developer wants to build a mixture of detached, semi-detached and terraced three to four-bedroom properties on the site.

A planning statement submitted to the authority said that 10 of these properties would be classed as “affordable” housing. It also claimed the new homes would have a “rural” design which would help them fit in with the area.

“The units are of rural design, reflective of the development’s surroundings. The elevations will be emphasised with stone window surrounds, starting with their built form, they reflect the red brick terraced nature of the surrounding residential dwellings,” it said.

It also described the site, near Willington Quay, as a “quaint rural corner”.

The developer also claimed that the scheme would give an economic boost to the area by creating construction jobs and “sustainable economic growth”.

The statement said: “The construction of 83 dwellings with associated infrastructure works will create a number of construction-related jobs and the new homes will provide good-quality accommodation for those looking to move to the area.”

The council’s planning committee is set to decide on the latest stage of the application by mid-August.
