Rose is back at training after concern

-

NEWCASTLE United’s on-loan defender Danny Rose is back in training at Benton.

The England international defender was extremely outspoken about the prospect of returning to first-team training before Project Restart got under way, citing health concerns.

However, with the Tottenham full-back reassured by the club’s medical team and boss Steve Bruce, who gave players the option of not returning, Rose has taken part in the club’s first fullsquad sessions since March.

He is also set to have his loan spell from Spurs extended with games set to go on beyond his current loan arrangement with the London club.

Rose recently said: “I am dying to get back to football but just with the things that are happening right now, people are going through this coronavirus pandemic a lot worse than me, I don’t want to be complaining about everything.

“Just off the fact people are suggesting we should go back to football like we are guinea pigs or lab rats.

“We are going to experiment with this and see if it works.

“I can just imagine people at home saying, ‘Well, they earn that amount of money so they should be going back’.

“For stuff like that I think is it worth the hassle? I could be potentially risking my health for people’s entertainment and that is not something I want to be involved in if I am honest.”

Newcastle players are being tested three times a week for Covid-19.

■■ NEWCASTLE United’s “home” clash with Liverpool on the final day of the Premier League season could be switched to a neutral venue.

Police have identified a number of fixtures which could present issues with supporters turning up at grounds to back their teams from outside the stadium despite the behind-closed-doors ruling.

With Liverpool potentially set to be presented with the Premier League trophy on the final day, the authorities fee fans may travel to Tyneside.

Three of the Reds’ clashes have been looked at by police including the Merseyside derby, which could take place in Manchester, and the clash with the Citizens which was scheduled for the Etihad Stadium.

All games are set to be aired live, with some on the BBC for the first time since the Premier League’s formation in 1992.
