Three more virus deaths

-

THERE have been three more Covid-19-related deaths in North East hospitals.

NHS England confirmed there have been 108 new deaths in English hospitals, bringing the total number of reported deaths in hospitals in England to 26,722.

Only two North East trusts registered deaths where coronavirus played a role, but figures for Mondays are routinely lower due to reporting issues at the weekend.

Of the 108 new deaths announced on Monday, 13 occurred on May 31, 40 occurred on May 30, 16 occurred on May 29.

The figures also show 24 of the new deaths took place between May 3 and May 28, 11 occurred in April, and the remaining four deaths took place in March with the earliest on March 19.

NHS England releases updated figures each day showing the dates of every coronavirus-related death in hospitals in England, often including previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.

This is because of the time it takes for deaths to be confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19, for post-mortem examinations to be processed and for data from the tests to be validated.

The figures published yesterday by NHS England show April 8 continues to have the highest number for the most hospital deaths on a single day, with a current total of 895.
