Foundation appeals in wake of Covid-19 crisis

-

THE Bradley Lowery Foundation has appealed to the public for help after it revealed the impact Covid-19 has had on donations.

Set up in memory of six-year-old Bradley Lowery who fought neuroblastoma cancer, the charity supports families who are fundraising for treatment or equipment.

Little Bradley captured hearts around the nation as he battled a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer.

Tragically, he lost his fight to cancer in 2017 and his family have vowed to help families going through devastating illnesses ever since.

But like most charities, the global pandemic has caused a drop in donations with many organisations feeling the strain caused by Covid-19.

The Bradley Lowery Foundation (BLF) based in

Blackhall Colliery, County Durham, said it had to cancel all its events, which led to a “huge drop” in donations.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the charity, set up by Bradley’s mum Gemma, said: “As you all know, during the Covid-19 outbreak all events the BLF have organised have had to be cancelled resulting in a huge drop in donations.

“Everyone is struggling so as a charity we fully understand that in this day and age, every penny counts.

“We have been looking at different ways in which we can raise funds, but offer something back to our amazing supporters.”

The charity is now looking at new ways people can support it and has obtained a small lotteries licence, allowing it to run raffles where it can offer cash prizes.

It added: “We have also been noticing an increase in online shopping, so have now joined Give as you Live.

“Your regular shopping really can make a huge difference to the BLF and the children we support.”

Give as you Live is a freeto-use site that claims a percentage of sales cost and gives it back to BLF. For more information, you can visit www. bradleyloweryfoundation.com
