LOOKING for somewhere different and closer to home to study for your degree? Small class sizes and flexible study options, including part-time learning and excellent tutor support, are among the reasons New College Durham is such a popular and fruitful place to study.

For a start, the college has a dedicated Higher Education centre, which is a great space for both learning and socialising. This is something that’s proved both by what its students go on to do and the responses to their time at college.

After the 2018/19 academic year,

97 per cent of its graduates went on to employment or further study. Alongside this, New College Durham has the highest student satisfaction rate in the North East region - according to the 2019 National Student Survey – with 95 per cent of higher education students saying they were satisfied with the overall quality of their course.

It’s perhaps unsurprising when you consider there’s 50 university level programmes to choose from, including Foundation Degrees, Honours Degrees and professional qualifications in a wide range of subject areas.

There’s also careful consideration given to students’ futures, with the college working with employers to design its curriculum.

Added to this, teaching is done by professionals who have worked in industry, so that students are prepared with the skills and knowledge needed to stand out in the job market.

Students get to take part in work placement opportunities and work on live briefs from employers, so they gain real experience ready for when they graduate. Joining this is a network of student support services, to make sure you sure you reach your potential.

Among the popular courses at the college is its Health and Care programmes – in particular the Foundation Degree for Innovation in Health and Social Care, which will ensure you develop the advanced knowledge and skills of a health and social care professional. More information about the course can be found here.

There’s also a great range of education programmes, if you’re interested in moving into a teaching career. Full details of the courses can be found at this link.

You also find specialist facilities with the Graphic Design and Media programmes, which provide BA degree courses in subjects such as Design and Visual Arts, alongside foundation degrees in areas including Film and Media Production.

Alongside the strength of the courses, there’s lots to enhance your student experience, including an active students union, a gym, cafes and free onsite parking.

If you’re looking to continue your education, would like to upskill or are considering a complete career change, New College Durham can support you on this journey.
