Ownership test is ‘stricter than many believe’, Premier League

THE Premier League have ‘stressed’ to the Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust (NUST) that their ownership test is stricter than many are led to believe.’

The fate of the Magpies’ prospectiv­e takeover is still in the hands of the organising body, who have been carrying out their owners’ and directors’ test for a while now.

Although the Premier League have had their hands full with Project

Restart, Newcastle’s would-be owners – Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Reuben Brothers and Amanda Staveley – did not necessaril­y envisage such a lengthy wait for a verdict.

However, the Premier League have taken any objections to the proposed takeover extremely seriously.

While the moral issues raised have been noted – Richard Masters, the Premier League’s chief executive, has written a letter of reply to Hatice Cengiz, the fiancee of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi – documents have also been submitted which claim to establish a link between Saudi Arabia’s government and beoutQ, a pirate pay television broadcaste­r.

The prospectiv­e takeover and the issue of ticketing refunds were among the subjects raised by the NUST in a Premier League network meeting.
