Going the distance
THERE’S a big change to the soaps this week with no new episodes of EastEnders due to filming schedules being disrupted in March as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Coronation Street managed to eke out its recorded episodes for longer, by reducing airing the soap from six times a week to three.
The cast and crew returned to the Cobbles this week under strict social distancing rules.
Older cast members will not be back on set and kissing scenes have been banned.
And during filming at Corrie’s studios in Trafford, Greater Manchester, cast and crew will have their temperatures checked on a daily basis.
Cast “who are over the age of 70 or have an underlying health condition won’t be on set in the initial period of filming”, ITV has said.
As a result of this staggering of episodes, it’s actually VE Day this week in Weatherfield.
So while Carla sets about decorating the Rovers for the celebrations, Seb plucks up the courage to tell Alina that he still has feelings for her. Which is obviously bad news for Emma, who always seems to be caught in the middle; if she has any sense Emma will give him an ultimatum.
Meanwhile, Tracy persuades a reluctant Leanne that they should have a family day out as it would do Oliver good. She agrees and Leanne is thrilled to see a flash of the old Oliver when they visit a petting zoo. However, her happiness is short lived when she discovers Steve has booked a trip for them all to go to Cornwall.
Elsewhere, Daniel heads to a hotel where he meets Nicky, and opens up to her about Sinead.
Also, David is amused when Shona steals Ray’s wallet; he explains that is how they met, but later he is stunned when she leans in for a kiss and suggests they have sex.
