BRITAIN’S “first inflatable theme park” has applied for a licence to serve alcohol.

Inflata Nation, which opened last year in North Shields, features a giant ramp catapult slide, which fires people off the end to land on a giant crash mat.

Other family treats inside the Royal Quays attraction include multi-lane slides, a ‘death drop’ slide, obstacle course, a ‘Total Wipeout’ balls zone, demolition ball and a Gladiator podium.

Inflata Nation also has theme parks in locations including Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.

Now, the the firm has applied to North Tyneside Council for permission to sell alcohol at the venue.

It has asked for a licence to sell alcohol until 8pm and until 9pm on Fridays.

In an application form submitted to the council, the firm outlined various steps it will take to sell alcohol responsibly.

This includes CCTV which will be checked regularly with recordings being kept for three months and an incident book will be kept recording any incidents of alcohol-related disorder and refusal of sales.

Staff will also be trained and a ‘challenge 25’ policy will be out in place. In a bid to prevent public nuisance, customers will be reminded to leave the premises quietly and banned from taking drinks outside.

Inflata Nation Newcastle co-owner Sally Robinson said the park wanted to give parents a chance to unwind with a glass of wine or beer while their children play.

She added: “Some of the other Inflata Nation sites hold licences to serve alcohol and when we asked for feedback from our customers as to what changes they would like to see, the ability for parents to have a beer or glass of wine while their kids are playing was one of the most common responses.

“We are trying to do everything we can to generate business when the site is able to reopen and this is one of the ways we think might help.”

North Tyneside Council’s licensing department is yet to make a decision on the application.
