Hendrick’s delight at United deal
JEFF Hendrick has revealed his delight at joining Newcastle United on a free transfer.
The 28-year-old midfielder left Burnley earlier this summer before discussions started with the Magpies.
The Chronicle reported exclusively at the start of the month that discussions with Hendrick’s agent and the club were under way.
After signing a four-year deal with the Magpies, Hendrick said: “It is a massive club and playing over the years, going to the stadium, it is one of the best stadiums to play in, so I just want to be playing there.
“I have had more than 100 games in the Premier League but I want to keep going and keep improving with a different team.
“It is going to be different for me, the demands with the bigger stadium, the crowd, how big the club is, so I have to take that on and keep pushing myself and striving to get better.
“I am looking forward to it – I cannot wait.”
Head coach Steve Bruce added: “Jeff is someone I have admired for a long time.
“I watched him when he was at Derby, then he went to Burnley for a lot of money and I could not afford him, so I missed out then!
“He is an experienced international footballer who can play all across the midfield so we welcome him aboard.
“He will be a big asset to us on and off the pitch.
“He is a great pro, down to earth, and at 28 it is a wonderful time to get somebody.
“It is the peak of his career – he is a really fit boy who has played 122 times in the Premier League for Burnley over the last four years and I am sure he will be a great addition to the squad.”
