Charity cash was among raider’s haul
A BURGLAR has been told to expect a prison sentence for raiding a Northumberland golf club.
Morgan Hillary and an accomplice sneaked into Tynedale Golf Club in Hexham and helped themselves to a haul of goods.
A court heard that the 20-year-old stole clubs, golfing equipment, alcohol and charity boxes during the burglary on March 15 this year.
The total value of the items was unknown, prosecutors said.
Hillary, who was on a suspended sentence at the time of the offence, has now been told he is likely to be sent to jail after he pleaded guilty to burglary of a nondwelling during a hearing at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
He also admitted a separate charge of possession of cannabis in Wallsend on July 7. Jack Lovell, for Hillary, said Hillary, of Tyne View West, Fouracres, Hexham, was facing further criminal matters later this year and made an application for the case to be adjourned to tie up with those.
He said: “Mr Hillary was subject to a suspended sentence order at the time of the burglary offence.
“He has further matters listed for trial at another court, so it’s my application to adjourn this matter until the date of the trial.”
Hillary was given a 26-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, on March 21, 2019 after he admitted possessing a double-edged 6in knife and a utility knife on the Kirkley Hall Campus of Northumberland College in October 2018.
Agreeing to adjourn the case, the chairing magistrate said: “This is a bit of a mess, isn’t it? You’re so young, with all of these offences.
“You were on a suspended prison sentence. The outcome of this, I think, is inevitable.”
