Search continues for walker, 80, missing since weekend
URGENT searches are continuing for an 80-year-old walker who went missing in the Yorkshire Dales.
Harry Harvey, from Tynemouth, was reported missing at 1.30pm on Sunday after he disappeared during an organised walking trip with a group in the upper dales.
It is feared he may have become lost. After initial searches on Sunday afternoon, police, search and rescue teams and the RAF search and rescue team are all conducting further searches today, starting near the Tan Hill Pub in Richmond. Concern is growing for the pensioner who has now been out in the elements for almost 24 hours.
Local policing inspector Mark Gee, said: “We are extremely concerned for Mr Harvey’s welfare. Despite being an experienced walker, Harry has been missing for a long time now, in wet conditions and cold wind.
“We are appealing for residents and workers in the area to check outbuildings, sheds and barns, as he may m have taken shelter in there.
“Harry was carrying carr all of his camping equipment with him, so we are also appealing to anyone who has seen a discarded tent or hiking gear to get in touch.”
When Harry went missing he was wearing a dark jacket and trousers, walking boots and carrying a large dark rucksack containing all of his camping and hiking gear.
Anyone who thinks they might have seen Harry or who has any information is asked to contact police immediately.
