POLICE URGE WITNESSES TO GET IN TOUCH
A DRIVER who died at the scene of a crash on a Northumberland road has now been named.
At 11am on Saturday, police were called to a collision involving a blue Ford C Max and a silver Renault Clio near Weldon Bridge, on the A697 south of Longframlington.
The 76-year-old driver of the Clio, David Henderson from Blyth, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family are currently being supported by specialist officers and have asked their privacy is respected at this time but a picture of Mr Henderson has been released by his loved ones.
The 60-year-old male driver of the Ford had minor injuries and was taken to hospital following the collision.
The air ambulance landed near to the crash site and six ambulance resources were also sent but Mr Henderson’s life could not be saved.
An investigation into the crash was immediately launched with officers asking for witnesses and drivers with dashcam footage to come forward.
Sergeant Matt Sykes, of Northumbria Police Motor Patrols team, said: “This was a tragic collision which has taken a man’s life and injured another. Our thoughts are with David’s family at this incredibly difficult time.
“Our investigation is ongoing and we are trying to establish a picture of the events leading up to the collision. We are still asking for witnesses, anyone with dashcam footage or information about the incident to come forward and speak with us.”
