Time to bring Willems back to Toon?

NEWCASTLE United fans are nearunanimous in their desire to see Jetro Willems return to the club.
Reports in Germany have claimed that Eintracht Frankfurt are hoping the Magpies pounce in January and make a deal to sign Willems for a small fee.
The wing-back is currently back in full training after a serious knee injury sustained on loan at the Magpies last season, although he is yet to make a start for the German side in this campaign.
Having been an ever-present for the first half of last season, fans are keen to see Willems return to the club.
Willems has targeted a return to action in early 2021 but, with him being out of contract at the end of the season, it is claimed that Eintracht Frankfurt are keen to gain a fee for him before he leaves on a free.
The Dutch full-back proved popular at Newcastle, scoring fine goals against Liverpool and Manchester City, as he looked close to fulfilling the potential that saw him become the youngest ever player to feature at a European Championships in 2012.
Yet, following the injury, Willems is now expected to be available on a free transfer if he is not snapped up in January.
Chronicle Live has previously reported that Willems is still open to the idea of joining Newcastle - and a move to another former club, PSV, has also been mooted.
Speaking to Chronicle Live, Sport1’s Eintracht Frankfurt reporter, Christopher Michel, said he did not expect Willems to still be at the German side come the summer.
He said: “I don’t think Willems still has a great future in Frankfurt but, in my opinion, he really could help because Eintracht doesn’t really have a left-back and Willems is a good player. So far it hasn’t suited between him and the manager, Adi Hutter, and I have some doubts over whether that will change.
“I think Willems will either leave the club in winter for a small amount of money or he will switch to another club for free in the summer. I don’t believe Willems really has a future in Frankfurt but next week they have a friendly match against Nurnberg and we hope Hutter will try Willems and maybe he can tell the coach: ‘Hey, here I am.’
“Realistically, though, I don’t think Willems and Frankfurt will be together in the summer.”
