England ace Wilson back but Carroll to miss out with calf injury

-

NEWCASTLE United will welcome back Callum Wilson for the clash with Crystal Palace – but fellow forward Andy Carroll has suffered a fresh injury setback.

Head coach Steve Bruce also said that ‘two or three’ members of the Magpies setup are self-isolating but refused to name the individuals concerned.

Former AFC Bournemouth striker Wilson missed the 2-0 defeat against

Chelsea due to a hamstring injury sustained at Southampton.

However, Bruce is confident the England frontman will be ready to play against the Eagles tonight at Selhurst Park.

He said: “As we speak now he is fit and has trained all week.

“We didn’t think we could risk him [against Chelsea]. He has made a difference for us with six goals so we are delighted.”

The return of Wilson comes as Bruce revealed Geordie target man Carroll has picked up another injury and will not be available due to a calf injury.

While Dwight Gayle has returned to training this week, it is believed tonight’s clash with his former club has come too early for the forward.

When asked to expand on who was unavailable – specifically with Covid issues – Bruce added: “Covid is one problem but we don’t want to go into individuals.

“We are in a decent place with injuries though. Two or three indviduals are self-isolating.”
