Being back in action was the Main thing for us, admits Pearson

- By MARK CARRUTHERS

CONSETT striker Dale Pearson was delighted to return to action with a four-goal blast in his side’s secondround win against Northern Counties East League club Maltby Main.

The Steelmen were in devastating form as they dispatched their visitors with relative ease at Belle View to secure their place in this afternoon’s third-round draw.

The result and performance meant Pearson’s side could reflect on its first competitive game in more than a mouth with great satisfaction and the former Blyth Spartans and Newcastle Benfield hitman relished the return to the on-field action.

He said: “I was delighted to score four goals but being back playing is the most important thing for us.

“We trained on Thursday and all of the lads looked sharp, so it was obvious they had all been doing bits at home during the break.

“There is nothing better than getting back on the pitch in a game like this and I am glad we have made the most of it.”

Two-time finalists West Auckland Town will join Consett in the draw after they produced a fine display to claim a 4-1 victory at 1874 Northwich. Former Sunderland youngster Jordan Blinco led the way with a brace and there was a goal apiece for Jamie Harwood and Michael Hoganson as Gary Forrest’s side saw off their hosts.

2018 finalists Stockton Town will also be in the hat after Dan McWilliams, Jamie Owens, Mikey Roberts and Adam Nicholson all scored in their 4-2 home success against Charnock Richard.
