It’s all change for Heed Trophy tie

BOSS IS EXPECTED TO GIVE BENCH-WARMERS A RUN-OUT

- By JEFF BOWRON

GATESHEAD have had a settled side of late but will make changes for tonight’s FA Trophy tie with Farsley Celtic.

The second-round clash at the International Stadium will see a number of recent bench-warmers get game time.

It is not clear, however, whether player-manager Mike Williamson will give himself a first run-out of the season.

Whatever side takes the field Williamson expects it to be strong enough to get the job done.

A trip to National League outfit Solihull Moors this weekend awaits tonight’s victors.

Goalkeeper James Montgomery is not expected to be fit until the new year.

Other than that Williamson has a full squad to select from.

Captain Nicky Deverdics, Nathan Dale, Dan Ward and Macaulay Langstaff could all be handed starts.

Williamson said: “We have a good squad which is competitive and have lads who want to get on the pitch.

“We have had our captain on the bench for the last four games and Langstaff came on and scored the winner at Chester.

“Dan Ward has been fantastic for us so it is going to be a very strong team – one I expect to win the game.”

A late error from young goalkeeper Harrison Male saw the Heed slip to a 1-0 defeat against Kidderminster on Saturday.

“The only disappointment was the result because the performance was very good,” added Williamson.

“On another day we take three points so it is all about bouncing back - and it is a good opportunity for us at home.”

An injury-time Jordan Richards super-strike saw Gateshead lose 1-0 at Farsley in National League

North last month.
