Cooking up a storm

-

BLESS good old Biggins, who manages to keep a grin on his face despite being hollered at by Janet Street-Porter in this frantic Christmassy edition. Christopher Biggins is paired up with Janet for one of the festive tasks in this special, as Gregg Wallace and John Torode – wearing their Christmas jumpers – watch on in silent amusement.

As the celebs try to cook identical portions of pork

Wellington from basic instructions, communicating only through a wall, Janet is soon screeching.

“Biggins, how brown is your meat?”, “Don’t nag!”, “It’s like bl***y brain surgery!” “It’s not that simple!” Biggins, ever the panto pro, smiles in the face of adversity.

Meanwhile, over in a calmer

corner of the kitchen, TV personality Vicky Pattison and broadcaster Dev Griffin are trying to make a Christmas breakfast of hot smoked salmon and potato pancakes with poached eggs.

“My poached eggs are so hit and miss,” says Dev. “Well I do them in the microwave,” says Vicky. Unsurprisingly, things do not go well. “We’re flying by the seat of our pants!” says Vicky.

In another task, the stars of Celeb MasterChefs past, must select a different festive ingredient from an Advent calendar mystery box and showcase it in an inventive dish.

They then test their skills by taking well known Christmas ingredients and getting as creative as possible to create a magical two-course meal.

“Who’s going to be the star on the top of our tree? Who’s going to pull a cracker?” says Gregg. Things certainly go off with a bang.
