Klopp’s Wilson warning as he prepares for a ‘tough’ night

-

JURGEN Klopp insists he is anticipating a “tough challenge” at St James’ Park on Wednesday night.

The Liverpool boss has pinpointed Callum Wilson – who is expected to return from an ankle knock – as the Magpies’ danger man but says Newcastle are not a one-man team.

The Reds won 3-1 in this fixture on the final day of last season, and Newcastle are without a victory in four matches in all competitions and go into this fixture looking vulnerable and devoid of any confidence.

Klopp was asked about eight-goal Wilson and said: “We expect him to play. He is a good striker but, actually, they have a couple of really good players.

“It will be another tough challenge like all Newcastle games always have been. We have three days, let’s make sure we are ready.” Klopp was speaking directly after Sunday’s West Brom game which ended in a surprise 1-1 draw at Anfield.

When asked about his own team’s confidence, Klopp said: “I’m not sure it has something to do with confidence, it’s about experience. So far we did it.

“The boys, that’s a top group, and they were a top group after winning 7-0 and they are a top group after drawing against West Brom. That’s how it is – that doesn’t change.

“But I’m now not a young manager anymore and I can judge these things in the right way.

“We are not happy about it, we are actually the opposite, but now it’s over.

“We cannot change that anymore, we just can make sure that in exactly the same situation it doesn’t happen exactly the same again.”
